i am gonna enter my first road race for fun. but since NONE of my favourite bike shops would rent me a roadbike, i had to make myself a clown and rent THIS. i know. laugh. at least they DO rent a 7000$ bike....
will fight like a lion and ride til i puke. just for myself. frienisberg. yehaa.

just came back from the race. dead. at least my legs. the race i entered was 68km long and had 800 meters in height to climb in total. at the start i was in the back of the field and everybody went fast from the beginning. at the first climb all got sorted out and i was able to pass riders. fast downhill, legs felt good, but it was all lost already as i could not manage to be in the front from the beginning with 280 riders... made the first lap in 58 minutes, 3 minutes behind the leader, rode half of the time alone, pedaling hard, then a group arrived and i was able to sneak in. then after 5 or 6 km in the second lap the big unexpected total break down. legs already empty. only a few sips of water left. eating impossible, would be too dry. climbing so slow, felt like a motherfucker. free drinks on top of the mountain all gone. downhill fast with a group, last in the last turn, but win the sprint. have no idea bout my result, must be pretty bad like 190 out of 280 haha...

conclusion: first: my training's worth shit. but it was a good experience. i know i am not a long distance dude, climbing is worst, so i'll concentrate on riding fast flat short distance from now. second: these road racers are defintely not my type of breed. i was the only one repin cut off jeans and black metal shirt. third: at my age, i should forget about getting good at cycling. last: long live ghetto street track. and this is a day to forget. but had to live it through once. hails

it has ben around all over already as i checked other blogs, but my friend shane sent me the link, so i did some research. below you can watch the whoe keirin race, with chris hoy fast as fuck and the horrible crash, where the malaysian rider Azizulhasni Awang ended up with a huge splinter through his leg.. apparently it was removed and he will be able to race at the world cup in Apledoorn at the end of next month.

first post in 2011. i am sorry to everyone checking on a regular basis for the lack of posts lately.. still uninteresting stuff going on, well foud some stuff though..

BUT: i got a huuuge surprise package lately from my brother SHANE. it's like second christmas. thanks sooooo much man. CLIF BARS are amzingly good and the blocks, well, finally i can change to some other flavours haha!

but the main thing are the two DVD's he sent along. two awesome 80's (one of 79) bicycle movies (both written by STEVE TESICH): BREAKING AWAY and AMERICAN FLYERS. stayed up all night and watched these pieces.

BREAKING AWAY is a movie of four friends in indiana, from whom one is into riding bikes and pretends to be italian cuz he's such a fan of italian cyclists. they have a workers background and are not at the college like the rich kids. fights are programmed. the final is a 200 lap "indy" bikerace with kickback-brake- singlespeeders. just awesome!

AMERICAN FLYERS is the story of two cycling brothers struggling to win the Hell of the West - a world class cycling comp - in colorado, and regain repect and affection they once shared. While training and racing, each fears the congenital ailment that struck down their father could suddenly struck one of them.

for the first time i went to the CMC Velodrome in Aigle. Met up with the SCHALLER TEAM and SEABASE to ride a few laps. fell in love, want to go back as soon as possible. going back to an almost raw diet during the past two weeks made my legs going sore pretty soon.. will work on it. before leaving, each of us sprinted the 200 meters, flying, i got in with a time of 13.4 as i remember.. damn thats slow haha, but it takes not only strenght in the legs, but a lot of technique too.. if i have the possibility to go back, well, i set my first goal to be around 12 sec. and hold to that black line damn it. worldrecord by the way is 9.572.sec set by 23 year old FRENCHMAN KEVIN SIREAU..

This is a film about 5 semi-professional young Japanese cyclists traveling to Burkina Faso, in Africa, to participate in the most important African stage race – The Tour Du Faso.
It is a film about the clashing of two completely different worlds. The structured, often predictable lives of the young men in the Japanese team, not to mention the cold climate of Japan, are in stark contrast with the African reality.
Nothing could have prepared these young men for the journey that lay ahead. The race turned out to be a grueling emotional and physical experience. Between injuries, illness, communication breakdown with the locals, and 1200 km under a scorching sun on a thick African dust tracks, these men were really tested to the limit.

i got an email recently from kevin over at WHEELMEN. check it.

They design and produce bags and accessories for urban cyclist and everyday people alike. The designs are fashionable and functional. Intersting: Their story runs deep into the family heritage. Kevin's Great Grandfather Charles E. Heydt was in The Greenwich Wheelmen (Greenwich, CT) and Harlem Wheelmen (Harlem, NYC) bike clubs in the 1880s/1890s.

The bags are made from a durable waxed canvas exterior, 1000 denier nylon lining and classic leather branding (do a vegan version ;)). Beside bags, they print also shirts and sweats for all hip kids.

Friday the first WOLVH RACE took part. only 9 riders showed up. i was really disapponted, but at least the 9 were really commited. i cut down the race to 10 laps, so a total of 25km's. The winner of the first lap would get a special price. 5th lap the racers had to buy something to drink in the huuuuge supermarket. After the Race LEA served us some hot vegan CHILI at her appartement. Saturday Evening i went to the HALLOWEEN ALLEYCAT in Bern. Exited to see a lot of riders. Manifests were hidden in the woods. Then the Tour consisted of collecting sweets @ every cemetary around Bern. the map was hard to read but i followed MANI a skilled rider who knew exactly where shit was... we were the only ones to have all checkpoints and the fastest time. shared first place. to mention he rode a derailleur and i rode my prototype from SEABASE , 48/15 gearing. thanks to everyone organising. til next time!

WOLVH RACE INFORMATIONS

This is the first Race of an upcoming Serie of Races.

This first Race will be a 12 Lap Criterium in the Industry Zone of Biel Bienne.

Total of 30km.

The Lap is almost flat, has two ups and downs.

There may be some traffic due to two big supermarkets who are open til 21.00

There is one roundabout and one crossing of the mainstreet. Be careful and watch out!

Please take (rear and front) lights and a helmet.

Meeting: Zentralplatz Biel-Bienne, 19.00 Uhr

(if there are less than 15 riders, we cancel the race and go drink some)

All Bikes are welcome to this. Of course we prefer Fixed Gear or Singlespeed.

ONE WHIP SKID!

so today i went back to the shop to fix the wheel from yesterday.. right lockring, new cog. all fitted well with the help of spacers. seabase went to try it, did ONE side whip riding downhill and the hub was fucked. you can't see it on the pic but the wheel had a decent eight and the axle wouldn't turn anymore. by the way, we are speaking of a MAVIC ELLIPSE. sorry dudes, but this is a shit wheel for agressive urban track bike riding.. plus the fact that it has the normal 1.37x24 threading for a cog and a very special old french 33x1 threading for the lockring and that it needs spacers and that mavic is not able to recommand a cog etc makes this wheelset a total FAIL in my eyes. luckily we got 'em for free to "test", well, the test was ONE WHIP SKID.

new tarckbike. new wheelset to test, thanks to seabase. wrong lockring. fucking french threading. two skidds were enough to rip it all apart. luckily the hub is a fixed/fixed, if not the wheel could easily be thrown away. we'll try again with the right lockring...
